Why Should I Make a Telehealth Appointment?

The world has gone back to “normal” after the COVID-19 pandemic, so why should you make a telehealth appointment?

Virtual visits aren’t only used to prevent sickness. They can also increase access to care, including healthcare services for your unexpected pregnancy.

In this blog, we’ll introduce you to our new telehealth program. You’ll learn how it works, plus more about its convenient, cost-effective, and confidential benefits.

What is telehealth?

Telehealth is the use of technology to provide access to health care providers. You’ll connect with one of our licensed nurses through a video call for your Thrive Orlando telemedicine appointment.

Rather than attending an in-person appointment, you can get answers about your pregnancy from the comfort of your home. All you’ll have to do is download the RingCentral app to connect.

During your appointment, the nurse will assess you to see if you might be pregnant. If necessary, she will help you schedule a face-to-face visit. This shortened appointment will include an ultrasound and STI testing. You will have priority to book your in-person visit for these healthcare services.

As always, every service (including your telehealth appointment) is completely free and confidential.

Can I get the abortion pill through a telemedicine appointment?

No, in the state of Florida, you can’t get the abortion pill through a telehealth appointment.

That said, our telehealth services are the first step to getting the abortion pill information you need.

We’ll help you book an ultrasound to make sure your pregnancy is less than 10 weeks along. The FDA says chemical abortions (a.k.a. using the abortion pill) are only safe during the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. We’ll also use the ultrasound to check for an ectopic pregnancy

If you are too far along or have an ectopic pregnancy, you may experience life-threatening complications from the abortion pill. Because of these risks, you should never get the abortion pill online or through the mail before talking to a medical professional.

Your telehealth appointment is your chance to get the best medical care and find the best options for your future. You deserve to feel confident about your choice. A quick, free telehealth appointment is a great place to start.

3 reasons to make a virtual health care appointment for your unintended pregnancy

1. Convenience

You may feel like you’re racing against the clock as you consider your pregnancy options. With an appointment via telehealth, you can often see a licensed nurse within 24 hours. You may even be able to schedule your consultation for the same day.

Best of all, you can get medical care or advice within your own home. You can connect through your phone, tablet, or computer, saving valuable time. You won’t have to worry about:

  • Getting childcare
  • Calling out of work (you can even connect from your car on your lunch break!)
  • Getting transportation to the clinic
  • Finding the time to travel to and from the appointment

Quicker answers mean more time to determine the best option for your pregnancy and future. Schedule your appointment today to get the answers you need.

2. Cost

At Thrive Orlando, you never pay for the care you receive. Our services empower you to make the best choice for your pregnancy and health, no matter your circumstances.

During your free virtual visit, you’ll have the chance to make an appointment for our in-person services. We provide health services such as:

  • Lab-quality pregnancy tests
  • Limited obstetric ultrasounds
  • STI testing & treatment
  • Resources about your unplanned pregnancy options
  • Local referrals

You can also talk to a patient advocate and a licensed nurse about your options, questions, and personal health concerns.

3. Confidentiality

Our telehealth policy follows the same confidentiality laws as in-person appointments. We will protect your health information according to HIPAA guidelines. We never share sensitive information.

Additionally, telehealth appointments may be easier to hide from abusive partners or others who may react badly to your pregnancy.

Some partners use location tracking to see where you’ve been. Since you will enjoy our confidential patient care from your home, you won’t have to worry about someone finding out about the pregnancy before you tell them. A telehealth appointment may offer shorter wait times as well for greater peace of mind.

If your safety is threatened and you need help, you can call 800-799-7233 for real-time help from the Domestic Violence Hotline.
